$1.5M Bail For Man Charged In Concord Shooting

Police call the shooting a targeted attack.

CONCORD, CA — Charges were filed against a man suspected of shooting and wounding someone in Concord last month, according to prosecutors.

At 4:30 p.m. on March 18, the emergency department of John Muir Medical Center told Concord police that they were treating a gunshot victim, who was treated and released.

Police investigated the shooting, which reportedly happened near Esperanza and Huron drives. They identified the suspected shooter as Devante Lucas Watson.

With help from the United States Marshal's Service, Watson was arrested on March 26 in Richmond. Detectives allegedly found a loaded firearm while serving warrants related to the case.

Police said the shooting was a targeted attack and not a random act of violence.

Watson was charged with two counts of assault with a semi-automatic firearm, discharging a firearm at an occupied motor vehicle, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and discharging a firearm in a school zone, the Contra Costa County District Attorney's Office said in a statement Monday.

He is being held at the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $1.5 million bail.
