16-Year-Old Victim Of Walnut Creek Crash Identified

The Contra Costa County coroner identified the victim of Saturday's crash as a 16-year-old student at Mt. Diablo High School.

CONCORD, CA — The Contra Costa Sheriff's Office identified the victim of a Saturday head-on collision in Walnut Creek as Alina Safi, a 16-year-old student at Mt. Diablo High School in Concord.

The fatal accident took place around 4:40 p.m. Saturday on eastbound Ygnacio Valley Road east of Oak Grove Road, according to the Walnut Creek Police Department.

Safi, who driving one of the cars involved in the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Four other people were taken to hospitals, including a child who was flown to UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital in Oakland. A person nearby also took a dog inside one of the cars to a nearby veterinary clinic for care.

A GoFundMe page set up in Safi's memory has raised over $4700 as of Wednesday afternoon. "Alina was a gentle soul whose heart was filled with kindness, compassion, and love for everyone around her. She was known for her radiant smile, her respectful nature, and her dream of building a future that would make her family proud. Even at a young age, she embodied patience, generosity, and gratitude," her family wrote of her.
