3 Concord Roadways Slated For Nighttime Closures: What To Know

Some of the road closures are for five consecutive nights. See a map of the closure areas.

CONCORD, CA — Nighttime road closures and detours are scheduled in three parts of the city of Concord starting Sunday, Oct. 15, and continuing through Friday, Oct. 20. The city will have construction crews performing nighttime roadwork, resulting in roadway closures and detours between 9 p.m. and 5 a.m.

Willow Pass Road Between Landana Drive And Avila Road

Starting Sunday, Willow Pass Road between Landana Drive and Avida Road, toward Highway 4, will be fully closed at night for five consecutive nights. These closures allow the contractor to safely perform long-needed repairs to the base pavement and overlay a fresh layer of asphalt.

Intersection At Market Street & Clayton Road

Starting Sunday, the intersection of Market Street and Clayton Road at the Highway 242 off-ramp/on-ramp, will be fully closed at night for five consecutive nights. This closure allows the contractor to perform the necessary repairs to the base pavement, including filling potholes and overlaying a fresh layer of asphalt at the busy intersection, which marks the beginning of paving for the Meadow Lane/Market Street rehabilitation project. During this nighttime work, the Clayton Road off-ramp and on-ramp will be closed and traffic will be detoured around the project area.

Grant Street At Highway 242

Starting Sunday through the end of the month, intermittent nighttime closures are scheduled on Grant Street approaching and passing Highway 242. These are anticipated to be partial, not full closures, to accommodate work on curb ramps and storm drain inlets in preparation for the paving work planned to start in November. During the night work, the contractor will maintain at least one lane of traffic throughout the area and will detour traffic whenever an on-ramp or off-ramp is temporarily affected and closed. The Grant Street and CA-242 northbound off-ramp will remain operational during the Market Street at CA-242 closures as part of the designated detour route.

511 SF Bay Sends Updates To Navigation Apps

In addition to notifying all emergency services dispatch, including fire and police, and local transit agencies, the city will also notify 511 SF Bay. The 511 traffic alert service typically updates map navigation apps to help drivers avoid closure areas.

Roadway Improvements Funded By Measure V

Concord’s extensive roadwork is the result of a two-year, $120 million Capital Improvement Plan budget supported by Measure V, a voter-approved, one-cent use and transaction tax intended to maintain a reliable source of local funding. Measure V generates about $32 million annually and is invested by the City Council into community-identified priorities, including roadway improvements such as these.
