Arrest Made After Bronze Item Stolen From Church Altar In Concord
Police arrest a suspect in the theft of a sacred bronze item stolen from a church altar in Concord.
CONCORD, CA — A bronze sacred item was stolen from the altar of a church in Concord last week but was recovered and the alleged thief was taken into custody, police said Wednesday.
The theft occurred last Thursday at the Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church on Oak Grove Road. A 3-foot-tall, 30-pound monstrance was taken during the morning hours, according to Concord police.
Investigators eventually identified and located the suspect and recovered the monstrance at his home. It has since been returned to the church, and the suspect was arrested on suspicion of grand theft, police said.
