BART Reopens Between Concord, Pleasant Hill
Tracks were closed overnight in both directions after the region's heat wave caused "a minor deviation in a small section of track."
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — BART has reopened its train tracks in both directions between the Concord and Pleasant Hill/Contra Costa Centre stations on Wednesday morning, a day after the region's ongoing heat wave caused "a minor deviation in a small section of track" and shut down service.
The service disruption was first reported shortly before 5:45 p.m. Tuesday and continued through the rest of the evening. Crews worked to reopen one of the two sets of tracks so trains could begin moving through the area again early Wednesday, then service was restored on both tracks as of around 6:15 a.m., according to BART.
Officials with the transit agency had said the track problems amid triple-digit temperatures were exacerbated by heat-related problems with equipment along the tracks that prevented any train service from going between Concord and Pleasant Hill on Tuesday. Bus shuttles were provided to take riders between the two stations.

BART spokesperson Chris Filippi said trains were still going slow in the area Wednesday morning, so riders should expect delays of about 10 minutes. He said trains systemwide will also be slowed again if or when temperatures hit 100 degrees in the region.
The segment of BART's Antioch line between Pleasant Hill and Concord has had various problems in recent months, including a partial train derailment in June due to a curve in the track that the agency blamed on hot weather.
