Beloved Bay Area Restaurant Chain Closes Last Locations: Report

After nearly a century, the business was still in the same family, at one point operating at least a dozen locations, SFGATE reported.

CONCORD, CA — The beloved Bay Area chain Kasper’s Hot Dogs closed its last two locations this month after 95 years in business, SFGATE reported.

The remaining locations included one in Oakland and another in Concord, according to the outlet, which noted a third location in Castro Valley shuttered in June but was reopened quickly by a former employee under the name Karmen’s, serving the same menu.

Kasper’s was started by Kasper Koojoolian in 1930, SFGATE reported, noting he first sold hot dogs in Chicago during the 1920s, but then moved to Oakland and set up shop in the area.

Despite the closures, diners in the mood for an old-school hot dog need not despair. Caspers Hot Dogs, which is a separate business run by the same family, still has five locations in the East Bay, SFGATE reported.
