Con Fire Launches Peer Support Canine Program
"These incredible canines foster camaraderie within our team, reminding us that we are not alone in our experiences."

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA—Contra Costa Fire's Peer Support Team introduced its new Peer Support Canine Program at a swearing-in event held Nov. 4.
The district developed the program to offer preemptive and proactive care to comfort firefighters, command staff, support staff and their families.
"As first responders, we often encounter traumatic situations that can lead to emotional and psychological challenges," Deputy fire Chief Brian Helmick said during the event held at Fire Station 2 on Geary Road in Pleasant Hill. "Our peer support dogs offer a unique form of comfort and therapy, helping to reduce stress and enhance morale."
