Concord Police Give Mail Theft Prevention Tips

Don't be a victim of mail theft -- protect yourself.

CONCORD, CA -- The Concord Police Department, aware that some city residents have found themselves victims of mail theft, has put together a list of things you can do to prevent becoming a victim of mail and/or Identity theft.

The things to do include:

  • Collect mail as soon as practical – DO NOT leave mail in the mailbox overnight.
  • Do place a vacation hold on your mail with the Post Office if you are leaving town for more than three days.
  • Do not place outgoing mail -- especially checks -- in the mailbox. Either take them to Post Office or place in a USPS blue mail collection box.
  • Pay bills electronically. Convert as many bills as possible to electronic delivery. (All utility companies offer this service).
  • Consider having all your mail delivered to a P.O. Box.
  • Opt out of pre-screen credit card application and mail marketing.

Opting out of pre-screened credit card applications can be done at https://www.optoutprescreen.co...
