Concord Police Retire Last 'Crown Vic'

It marks the end of an era for the Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor.

CONCORD, CA — The Concord Police Department marked the end of an era.

Ford produced the Crown Victoria Police Interceptor from 1992-2011 and it was a staple for police work nationwide. On Friday, the Concord PD department officially retired its last 2011 model "Crown Vic."

"... Known for its durability, pursuit power, and, let’s be honest, that unmistakable engine rumble," Concord PD said. "From traffic stops to high-speed chases, this iconic ride served officers and communities with reliability and style."

Although production has ceased on the sedan, Concord PD heard a rumor the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department still has a few in its fleet.

These days, most patrol officers drive a Ford Police Interceptor Utility. The latest models are equipped with a lithium-ion hybrid battery and a 12-inch touchscreen computer.
