Concord Under Flood Watch As Atmospheric River Pounds Bay Area

CONCORD, CA —A National Weather Service flood watch for Concord and the East Bay is expected to remain in effect through 4 a.m. Wednesday.

"You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings," the weather service said. "Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop."

Initial rain late last week and over the weekend helped saturate soils and prime portions of the Bay Area for increase flooding potential as an atmospheric river moves through.

"Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible," the weather service said. "Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas."

The flood watch encompasses the counties of Sonoma, Napa, Marin, San Francisco, San Mateo, ContraCosta, Alameda, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, San Benito and Monterey, and the cities of Oakland, Pacifica, Tamalpais-Homestead, Marina, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, Monterey, Antioch, Cordoza Ridge, Pittsburg, Rohnert Park, King City, San Jose, Scotts Valley, Live Oak, Blackhawk, Novato, Napa, South Santa Rosa, Berkeley, Petaluma, Boulder Creek, Concord, Angwin, Seaside, Lagunitas-Forest Knolls, Santa Rosa, Watsonville, Daly City, Day Valley, Hayward, Pleasanton, Salinas, Fremont, Greenfield, Livermore, Sausalito, San Ramon, San Rafael, Walnut Creek, and Woodacre.

The weather service also issued a wind advisory for the East Bay and Bay Area until 11 p.m. Tuesday. South winds 20-30 mph with gusts up to 60 mph are forecast.

"Gusty winds will blow around unsecured objects. Tree limbs could be blown down and a few power outages may result."
