Fire At High School In Concord Damages Football Field: Police

Surveillance footage showed several people, possibly juveniles, setting off fireworks on the field the night before, police said.

CONCORD, CA — Mount Diablo High School’s new synthetic turf football field was damaged by a fire over the weekend, according to Concord police.

Emergency personnel responded Sunday morning to the fire at the school, police said, adding surveillance footage showed several people, possibly juveniles, setting off fireworks on the field the night before.

“The fire was extinguished; however, the field experienced significant damage,” the Concord Police Department said Tuesday in a Facebook post.

The fireworks “may or may not have led to the fire,” police said.

Investigators are continuing to work to identify the people responsible, according to police, who asked anyone with information to contact Detective Lee Lawrence at 925-671-3234.
