I-680 Weekend Freeway Closure: Message Signs, CHP To Direct Motorists
Motorists in the East Bay, including in Concord and Walnut Creek, may need to use detour routes with the freeway closed. What to know.

EAST BAY, CA— With Caltrans scheduled to close southbound Interstate 680 in Pleasanton this weekend, detour signs will direct motorists, including in Concord and Walnut Creek.
During the closure, the contractor is replacing a portion of the existing deteriorated roadway with new pavement on southbound I-680, between Sunol Boulevard and Koopman Road. This work will repair deteriorating existing pavements and enhance motorist safety while reducing the number of nightly closures needed on the project.
The I-680 freeway will be closed in the southbound direction between Sunol Boulevard and Koopman Road starting at 10 p.m. Friday, June 9, and continuing throughout the weekend until 4 a.m. Monday, June 12.

Caltrans will place portable changeable message signs ahead of time, advising motorists of the closure. The message signs will remain in place throughout the weekend as the work is being performed.
"Caltrans is aware that the closures will impact the motoring public and measures are being taken to minimize inconvenience," Mara said. "Caltrans thanks the motoring public in advance for your patience as we work to improve I-680."
California Highway Patrol officers and message signs will be on hand to guide motorists, Mara said.
