International Day of Charity: Skip a Meal to Give a Meal

Today is the International Day of Charity. Meals on Wheels Diablo Region believes the best way to celebrate is to “Skip a Meal to Give a Meal.” On this special day, instead of spending money on lunch or dinner, donate the cost of your meal to help feed hungry seniors.
Every day, too many of our older neighbors worry about where their next meal will come from. They are the “hidden hungry” in our community, homebound, frail, and with a fragile support system. They depend on the meals we deliver to ensure that they are nourished, safe, and less isolated.
Since 1968, MOW Diablo Region has been providing lifesaving services to seniors, delivering over 600,000 meals in the past year alone. The need for the organization's supportive services has increased, with a 150% rise in Fall Prevention and more seniors receiving Friendly Visits and Calls to prevent social isolation. The Care Management program helps seniors struggling with challenges like depression, eviction, and elder abuse. Last year, the organization delivered 693,815 meals, made 12,674 Friendly Calls, delivered 5,057 Grocery Bags, made 973 Friendly Visits, served 529 Breakfast Bag clients, helped 463 seniors with errands, modified 306 homes, and made 98 elder abuse interventions.
