MDUSD, CVHS Charter Fans Battle It Out in Q&As
The school board and the charter steering committee released conflicting Q&As on Clayton Valley potentially converting to a charter school.
The Mt. Diablo Unified School District and the Clayton Valley High Charter Steering Committee are having a public relations battle.
First, the MDUSD released this Q&A last week about the impact of Clayton Valley High potentially becoming a charter school.
Then, earlier this week, Clayton Valley High's Charter Steering Committee released this Q&A, refuting many of the district's assertions. (The Q&A can also be read by click on the PDF file with this article.)

One of the most significant disagreements is on funding. The district says it stands to lose $1.52 million if the Clayton Valley converts to a charter.
The charter's Q&A says, "We believe the Q&A released by the District is meant to frighten and intimidate any charter supporters."

"This is not true," the charter steering committee said.
Charter proponents say the district is not factoring in the cost of operating the school and that the net loss to the district will be close to zero.
The MDUSD board will decided if Clayton Valley can convert to a charter school at its Sept. 13 meeting. If they reject the proposal, the decision can be appealed to the Contra Costa County Office of Education.
