• Concord, Meet Your New Mayor (patch.com) — Concord residents are getting a new mayor as Councilmember Laura Nakamura takes over the gavel from Carlyn Obringer, with Dominic Aliano selected as vice mayor. The council also honored downtown advocate Walter Eichinger with the 2025 Community Service Award for his work improving cleanliness and security around Todos Santos Plaza. Several upcoming Concord board and commission meetings and cancellations were also announced.
   

• Concord OKs $190K Contract To Replace Aging Playground At Community Park (claycord.com) — Concord Community Park on Cowell Road will get a fully new playground after the City Council unanimously approved a roughly $190,000 installation contract this week. The current equipment is more than a decade old and increasingly failing, and the city expects the replacement to be in place by the end of March 2026, improving a heavily used neighborhood amenity.
   

• 12 long-lived Bay Area restaurants we said goodbye to in 2025 (eastbaytimes.com) — One of Concord’s longtime comfort-food spots, Kasper’s Hot Dogs, quietly closed in mid-October, ending nearly a century-long Bay Area run that included a location here and another in Oakland. The broader piece looks back on a dozen other beloved, long-running Bay Area restaurants that shut down in 2025, highlighting how rising costs, retirements, and changing tastes reshaped local dining traditions.
