Person Found Dead At Scene Of Concord Fire

Firefighters arrived to find a small fire and a person's body.

CONCORD, CA — An investigation was continuing Thursday into a deadly fire that occurred Wednesday night in Concord.

Firefighters with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded at 6:15 p.m. to reports of a fire at a home in the 2600 block of Saratoga Avenue, off Port Chicago Highway and Olivera Road.

Crews found evidence of a small fire in a side yard. The blaze was extinguished and did not extend to the home, Con Fire Spokesperson Lauren Ono told Patch.

"Sadly, there was one fatality," Ono said.

The death did not appear to be suspicious, she said.

An investigation was continuing Thursday as personnel with Con Fire and the county coroner's office worked to determine the person's cause of death and the cause of the fire.
