Search Continues For Man Who Jumped In The Water To Save His Son
Breaking: The 9-year-old boy was saved, but the father has yet to be found.

PITTSBURG, CA — A 52-year-old Fairfield man jumped in the Sacramento River Saturday evening after his son fell in without a life jacket, according to the Sacramento Sheriff's Department. The boy was recovered, but his father never made it back to the boat. Now the department's Marine Enforcement Detail is searching the area for the man's body, according to department spokesman Sergeant Tony Turnbull.
Saturday at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Pittsburg Police Department received a call of a possible drowning near Broad Slough and the Sacramento Deep River Channel, Turnbull said. The Contra Costa Sheriff’s Office, Contra Costa Fire, and the Coast Guard responded and searched for the victim before suspending the search that night. The Marine Enforcement Detail resumed the search and recovery early Sunday morning, using sonar to try and find the man, Turnbull said.
The boy was taken to an area hospital and treated for hypothermia. Nobody was wearing life jackets during the incident, Turnbull said.
