1. Coronado Ferry moves closer to California's first fully electric vessels with $21 million investment (10news.com) — Coronado ferry riders could soon travel on California’s first fully electric passenger vessels, thanks to a $21 million investment that won’t raise the current $9 fare. Flagship Cruises plans to use mostly state grants to fund the cleaner, quieter boats, which will carry up to 275 passengers. A shipyard should be chosen by spring 2026, with service possibly starting next fall.

This deep dive traces decades of proposals, Navy pushback, political maneuvering, and architect Robert Mosher’s fight for the graceful curved design residents know today. It also recalls how Coronado teens watched—and even hitched rides—when the bridge finally opened in 1969.
