The Port of San Diego honors Coronado nonprofits (thecoronadonews.com) — Coronado residents can take pride that Safe Harbor Coronado has been honored by the Port of San Diego for its mental health support for local youth and families. Alongside regional nonprofit FOCUS, the Coronado-based group received an Anchors of Excellence award recognizing its counseling, workshops, and community programs that strengthen emotional wellness across town.
   

2. Coronado Unified School District names 2026 board leaders (thecoronadonews.com) — Coronado Unified has chosen Renee Cavanaugh as school board president for 2026 and confirmed the district is on track to become a basic-aid, property-tax-funded district by 2027–28. Trustees also approved modest raises for administrators and a 10-year lease with the U.S. Navy for child care services at 199 Sixth St., which currently brings in significant revenue for local instructional programs.
   

3. Ferry Landing negotiations will return to closed session as property's future is decided (coronadotimes.com) — Closed-session negotiations will now decide whether Port Coronado Associates keeps its lease at Coronado Ferry Landing beyond June 2026, leaving dozens of local businesses in limbo. Port officials cite millions in deferred maintenance, while Coronado’s mayor, councilmembers, and port commissioner press for swift action so long-delayed redevelopment and tenant stability can move forward.
   

4. Flashback Dec. 1904: When Coronado lit the 1st electric Christmas tree in the U.S. (timesofsandiego.com) — More than a century ago, Coronado helped change Christmas traditions nationwide when the Hotel del Coronado lit what’s widely considered the first electrically illuminated outdoor living Christmas tree in the U.S. The story traces how that 1904 spectacle, visible across Coronado, evolved into today’s beloved holiday lights and cemented the hotel’s place in local and national history.
   

5. Affable comedy acting legend Dick Van Dyke turns 100 years old (thecoronadonews.com) — Coronado gets a brief nod in the celebration of comedy legend Dick Van Dyke, who once called the island home and just turned 100.
