Prius Bursts Into Flames In Deadly 405 Freeway Crash That Killed 2

The deadly crash shut down the northbound side of the 405 Freeway.

CULVER CITY, CA — Two people were killed in a crash on the 405 Freeway early Friday morning that shut down the northbound side of the freeway for five hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred after 2 a.m., when a Toyota Prius and a commercial vehicle, which caused the Prius to burst into flames, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A photo published by KTLA shows the charred remains of two vehicles, the Prius with an SUV behind it.

The crash occurred near the National Boulevard exit of the northbound freeway, just before the 10 Freeway interchange, according to the CHP.

Two people, who have not been publicly identified, were pronounced dead at the scene.

A Sigalert was issued for the closing of all northbound lanes around 2:30 a.m. The freeway opened nearly five hours later at 7 a.m.
