Culver City To Add New Red-Light Cameras, Removing Others
The change was adopted because of new businesses and congestions in the downtown corridor.

CULVER CITY, CA -- Culver City is adding more photo enforcement at intersections with higher traffic volume and removing cameras at intersections with lower traffic volume, the police department announced.
The change was adopted because of new businesses and congestions at Overland Avenue and Washington Boulevard, Sepulveda Boulevard and Washington Boulevard and throughout National and Washington Boulevards, the Culver City Police Department said.
"Culver City streets have become major regional thoroughfares on the West side of Los Angeles and are being utilized by motorists attempting to avoid congested freeways in the area," the department said in a statement.

The department decided to add cameras to these intersections, but instead of growing the red-light camera program, the department decided to take away cameras at intersections that have proven to have fewer red-light running incidents, it said.
The department said doing so would have a "greater impact on deterring red light running incidents and improve traffic and pedestrian safety to those areas."

The red-light program is currently operating at 11 intersections. The department will remove cameras at the following four locations:
- eastbound Washington Place at Centinela Avenue,
- eastbound Washington Boulevard at Sawtelle Boulevard,
- and east and westbound Washington Boulevard at Helms Avenue.
Those cameras will be transferred to the new locations and should be operational by late spring 2017, the department said.
