Culver City Police Receive $86K To Increase Traffic Safety
Culver City police received a grant to increase traffic safety across the city, officials announced Wednesday.
CULVER CITY, CA — Culver City police announced Tuesday evening the department has received an $86,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety to streamline its process for collecting and reporting traffic data.
``Accurate and timely data is critical to the safety of our roads," acting Police Chief Manny Cid said. ``This funding will help paint a clearer picture of our biggest traffic safety issues."
According to the department, the money will be used to:

- develop a new or update an existing, electronic crash reporting system with software that is able to submit data to the California Highway Patrol's Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System; and
- develop a new, or update an existing, electronic citation system with software that is able to submit data to the Los Angeles County Court system.
``This program is new for 2021 and is an effort to improve how quickly crash data is collected and reported," OTS Director Barbara Rooney said.
High quality safety data is critical and is used to determine how to best address safety problems on city streets, Rooney said.

``We are happy to provide local agencies with the necessary tools to develop or enhance their electronic traffic reporting systems."
