Julie Bowen Receives Champion Award At Annual Milk + Bookie Fundraiser in Culver City

Bowen received the award for her continued support of the nonprofit organization's mission to raise money and books to end illiteracy in LA.

CULVER CITY, CA -- "Modern Family" actress Julie Bowen received the Milk + Bookies Champion award Sunday at the annual Story Time Celebration in Culver City on Sunday.

Bowen received the award for her continued support of the nonprofit organization's mission to raise money and books in an effort to end illiteracy in the Greater Los Angeles area. She also led the children in attendance in a read-along after accepting her award.

In addition to Bowen, the eighth annual event, held at HD Buttercup, was attended by Henry Winkler, Dan Bucatinsky, John Ortiz, David Walton, Greg Grunberg, Tom Everett Scott, Mark Feuerstein, Norbert the Dog, Johnathon Schaech, Lindsay Sloane and Lucas Turnbloom.

Winkler read to the kids, using voices and animated expressions, the latest edition of his best-selling Hank Zipzer series, "Here’s Hank."

Feuerstein, who starred in the USA series "Royal Pains," attended with his two children and read during Story Time.

Guests of the event included local parents, grandparents and children who lunched on finger sandwiches, mini corn dogs and lollipops shaped as whimsical creatures. The children also created arts and crafts and chatted with live storybook characters including Harry Potter, Tinkerbell and Captain Hook.

Milk + Bookies is a non-profit organization that helps get books to kids who otherwise wouldn’t be able to afford them or have access to them through their local school district. The annual Story Time Celebration fundraiser is held each spring in the Los Angeles area.
