Few details are known about the threat
“Some of the details talked about backpacks and other packages,” superintendent Ramon Cortines said. “After talking with (LA School Police Chief Zipperman), also with the board president, I made a decision to close all of the schools.”

He said the threat was made to “many schools in the district,” prompting the closure.
Some kids were already at school
Those students “will be with staff until parents or guardians can be contacted,” according to the district’s Twitter feed.
Parents or guardians going to pick their kids up will be required to bring proper ID to school to pick them up, the district said.
LAUSD is a massive school district...
The second largest in the nation, to be exact, behind only the New York City Department of Education.
LAUSD serves more than 640,000 students, according to its website. It includes more than 900 schools and 187 charter schools.
...and all of them were being searched
“I’ve asked the plant managers to walk the school, and if they see anything that is out of order to call the police,” Cortines said. “Not to touch anything, but if they see anything out of line to contact the proper authorities.”
Los Angeles schools have been on alert lately
Going to back to the shootings in San Bernardino an hour East of Los Angeles that killed 14 and wounded 22, the district has received several bomb threats that have been unfounded, Cortines said.
But Tuesday’s was apparently different.
“The threat is still being analyzed,” Corines said. “We have chosen to close our schools today until we can be sure our campuses are safe.”
