Update: Possible Gas Leak in Fox Hills Area, Businesses Briefly Evacuated

Multiple Culver City Fire Department units are on their way to 5730 Buckingham Parkway.

Update - 2:30 p.m: According to scanner reports, firefighters are now making their way to 5730 Buckingham Parkway across from Slauson Avenue. This is a new report and the gas leak is believed to be coming from a business in this building.

A command post was briefly set up in the area of 6000 Bristol Parkway at around 1:30 p.m. and multiple Culver City Fire Department units were dispatched to the area, following reports of natural gas smells.

Businesses in the area were evacuated until it could be determined where the odor was coming from.

A man in the area who asked to remain anonymous was working in one of the buildings in the Fox Hills area area and said the smell was very very strong.

"Other people said the smell was also very strong by the Wells Fargo bank on Bristol Parkway and Green Valley Circle," he said, "and units were dispatched to different locations.

According to scanner reports, firemen went into several buildings but could not find the source of the gas leak. The command post was taken down after approximately 30 minutes, but firefighters will continue to monitor the area and respond to any further alarms. 

A reader also emailed Culver City Patch to report that he was in Fox Hills and the entire outdoor area reeked of natural gas.

Patch contacted the Culver City Fire Department for further details, but all units including the Batallion Chief were out in the Fox Hills area covering the incident. Patch will bring you more details as soon as they become available.
