Theatrical Adaptation of David Foster Wallace Short Story at Culver City Ivy Substation

With the help of a grant from the City of Culver City Performing Arts Grant Program with support from Sony Pictures Entertainment, the Los-Angeles based theater company Needtheater, will present G.O.Ne, a theatrical adaptation of the late David Foster Wallace’s short story Good Old Neon.

The performances will take place on Oct. 23 & 24 at the Ivy Substation Theater in Culver City at 9 p.m. Tickets are $20 each.

The show is adapted and performed by Ian Forester and directed by Adam J. Smith. Good Old Neon was published originally in David Foster Wallace’s short story collection Oblivion.

According to a Needtheater release, the show “follows a recently deceased ad exec  - Neal - narrating his life long battle to reconcile his outward expression with his inner life in his struggle to live "authentically." Deciding in the end that the only way to stop being a fraud is to commit suicide, Neal re-lives his journey from childhood to his fiery death while revealing what he's learned about life after death, the nature of time and the limits of language.”

David Foster Wallace was an award-winning novelist, short story writer and essayist. He is widely known for his 1996 novel Infinite Jest. He took his own life in 2008 at the age of 46.
