Cupertino High School Basketball Player Collapses, Dies During Game
Kimberly Nuestro, a 16-year-old sophomore basketball player at Homestead High School in Cupertino, collapsed on the court during a game.

SILICON VALLEY, CA - Kimberly Nuestro, a sophomore basketball player at Homestead High School in Cupertino collapsed on the court and died during a game being played at Mission College in Santa Clara on May 7.
Hours later, she was pronounced dead at Stanford Medical Center. The cause of death is still unknown and still being investigated. Nuestro, a sophomore, had just turned 16 on April 21.
All this week, a small memorial is set up at Homestead High to honor her memory. Students have dropped off photos, flowers, and cards for Kimberly and her family, with the items all going the Nuestro family throughout the week.

"On behalf of everyone whose lives Kimberly touched, thank you for all the support you showed," the school said in an announcement posted on its website. "And for your continued support throughout this time."
Friends and family began a campaign to ask Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors to sign Kimberly's basketball shoes, because Curry was her favorite player. The above photo was being reposted on social media with the hashtag #signforkim and Steph Curry and the Warriors tagged on the posts.
