A Cupertino high school was placed on lockdown Monday afternoon as authorities worked to find a suspect who allegedly fled from police.

SANTA CLARA COUNTY, CA -- A Cupertino high school was placed on lockdown today as Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety officers worked nearby to detain a man who fled the scene of an argument on their arrival, a captain said this afternoon.

Officers were dispatched to a 7-Eleven near the corner of Homestead Road and Noranda Drive on a report of an argument.

When officers arrived, a male suspect jumped a fence and fled into a neighboring apartment complex and officers gave chase.

He resisted arrest and was transported to a hospital for medical treatment.

Homestead High School, located at 21370 Homestead Road in Cupertino, was placed on lockdown as a precaution, according to Ahearn.

"The school was put on a lockdown just because we did find a weapon," Ahearn said. "We wanted to make sure everyone's safe."
