Nominations Open For Cupertino School District Leadership Award

The Sandy Liu Community Service Leadership Award, which honors a member of the Cupertino community for their service to the district.

CUPERTINO, CA — Nominations are open for the ninth annual Sandy Liu Community Service Leadership Award, which honors a member of the Cupertino community for their service to children in the Cupertino Union School District.

The winner of the award will have a $1,000 grant donated to a CUSD educational program of their choice and be acknowledged at the CUSD Board of Education meeting on April 28.

Nominees don’t need to reside in Cupertino, but should have made efforts to strongly impact CUSD students in 2021.

Liu, who died after a battle with cancer in 2013, was described as a “visionary” leader of Blue Hills Elementary School and CUSD communities. She led an effort in 2010 to raise $2.5 million in two months, which helped retain 115 teachers and maintain class size ratio.
