• Drowning, leading cause of death for autistic children; YMCA hopes to expand a water safety program (record-bee.com) — A near-drowning at Cupertino’s Stevens Creek Dam pushed a San Jose father to help launch an adaptive YMCA water-safety program for neurodiverse kids, including autistic children who face a dramatically higher drowning risk. Now in its third year, the Southwest YMCA in nearby Saratoga hopes to raise $50,000 through Wish Book to expand free, one-on-one water safety lessons for 80 local neurodiverse children.
