A 26-year-old armed man was arrested Sunday after fleeing a burglary, Danville police said. Police searched for several hours.

DANVILLE, CA — A Walnut Creek man allegedly armed with a knife was arrested Sunday in Danville on burglary charges following a prolonged manhunt, according to the Danville Police Department.

On Sunday at 4:33 a.m., Danville police responded to a report that an unknown man tried to enter a home on Alexander Lane. The reporting party told police that the man, later identified as 26-year-old Clayton Mackay, was armed with a knife and was confronting her husband at the time of the call.

Mackay had fled the scene by the time officers arrived. During the pursuit, officers say they observed Mackay running from a neighboring yard. Danville police brought in a K-9 unit and assistance from other law enforcement agencies, but Mackay initially escaped. Police say he was last seen near the Livery Shopping Center parking on San Ramon Valley Boulevard at 4:40 a.m.
