Construction For Downtown Master Plan Starts 1st Week Of April

Hartz Avenue and all downtown businesses will remain open, and disruption will be as minimal as possible, the town said.

DANVILLE, CA — Danville plans to begin construction on its Downtown Master Plan Catalyst Project the first week in April, the town announced. The project will cost anywhere from $4.1 to $4.9 million, and include a number of pedestrian safety improvements and community gathering spaces, including:

  • Traffic calming and beautification improvements at 5 intersections along Hartz Avenue from School Street to Linda Mesa Avenue
  • Improvements near the Village Theatre
  • Improvements to Prospect Park Plaza
  • More community gathering spaces
  • Enhanced pedestrian safety
  • Opportunities to incorporate arts and culture

The first project will take place at the intersection of Church Street and Hartz Avenue, and is expected to complete in the late fall. The town has taken steps to minimize disruptions to the downtown.

  • All businesses will remain open and accessible.
  • Hartz Avenue will remain open, except for some overnight paving toward the end of the project. There may be lane narrowing and traffic flow adjustments.
  • Construction will take place in phases, intersection by intersection. Work will be limited to one side of the street whenever possible.
  • Most construction will take place Monday to Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.
