Supes Approve $800,000 Purchase Of New Tasers For Contra Costa Co. Sheriff's Office
BREAKING: The 579 new less-than-lethal weapons will replace the old devices that are currently nearing the end of their lives.
CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors today approved the $800,000 purchase of hundreds of new TASERs for the sheriff's office. The 579 new less-than-lethal weapons will replace the old devices that are currently nearing the end of their useful lives, which is five years, according to sheriff's spokesman Jimmy Lee.
"The TASER weapon system... [has] proven itself to be highly effective in subduing combative suspects while reducing the potential for injury to both the deputy and the suspect," according to a staff report that was presented to the supervisors today.
The supervisors approved the purchase as part of its consent calendar, which contains all of the typically non-controversial items before the board that require a public vote.
