Danville COVID-19 Cases Increase; Town Manager Sounds The Alarm

Danville has seen more new COVID-19 cases in recent weeks than most other Contra Costa County communities.

DANVILLE, CA — Danville Town Manager Joe Calabrigo urged residents to do their part to stop the spread of the coronavirus as COVID-19 cases in the town climb.

Danville has seen 170 COVID-19 cases diagnosed in the past 14 days, as of Tuesday. That's the eighth highest number of all 29 communities tracked by Contra Costa Health Services.

Just below Danville on that list is San Ramon, which has seen 164 new COVID-19 cases in the past 14 days.

In total, Danville has seen 690 COVID-19 cases and five deaths linked to the virus.

"Our new cases have increased almost seven-fold in the past month, and do not as yet include the potential impact from the long Thanksgiving weekend," Calabrigo wrote in a letter to the community sent Tuesday.

He called on people to wear masks, maintain social distancing and avoid gatherings.

"This is a tall ask at a time of the year when we all want to spend time with friends and family, but it’s what needs to happen so that we can get back to the type of family and community life that we all appreciate and value so much," he wrote.

The letter came about a day after Contra Costa County voluntarily adopted California's stay-at-home order early, meaning outdoor dining, hair salons and barbershops, personal care services and bars were ordered to close.

Calabrigo urged the community to continue to support local businesses that have remained open and are in need of help. The town's Pledge to Support Local campaign calls on residents to shop, dine and spend local, he said.

Residents may also consider buying gift cards or online goods. Calabrigo asked that people consider using curbside pick-up zones when picking up take-out, as companies such as Uber Eats and GrubHub take a percentage of the order price.

Town officials are trying to continue to provide the public with help and information, he said.

"We will make it through this pandemic, but it will take all of us working together as a community to ensure that the fewest people possible become sick and that our businesses have the support they need to be able to come back once we are able to reopen," he wrote. "We are all looking forward to a better 2021. It’s just around the corner. Let’s do all we can to get us there strong and together. "
