Danville Launches 'Not My Kid' E-Bike Safety Awareness Campaign

The Not My Kid website offers safety training and informational videos, quizzes to determine the safety and legality of e-bikes, and more.

DANVILLE, CA — The town of Danville has launched "Not My Kid," a comprehensive e-bike safety campaign aimed at helping families understand the rules, risks, and responsibilities of youth e-bike use. The campaign was launched in response to growing concerns about unsafe youth e-bike operation. Following a July 8 Town Council study session, staff advanced an action plan focused on education, outreach, enforcement, and potential policy modifications.

The "Not My Kid" campaign is central to the education component of the outreach plan. The Not My Kid website features links to online safety training provided by the California Highway Patrol and California Air Resources Board, as well as a list of all pertinent state laws. It also includes a series of videos featuring Mayor Renee Morgan in conversation with town staff about all aspects of e-bike safety.

Families can also take an interactive quiz to determine whether their child's e-bike is age-appropriate and permitted in specific riding locations. The website also allows families to reach out directly to staff with any e-bike related questions.

The Danville Police Department will also host e-bike safety pop-up events downtown, in parks, and near schools, where families will be able to get instant assessments of whether their child's e-bike is legal and safe to ride.

The police department will also issue warnings, citations, and impoundments for violations like reckless riding, underage operation, illegal modifications, and riding on sidewalks in business districts.
