Danville Love Story Lives On Through Valentine's Day Bouquet

Before a Danville man died in 2017, he made sure his wife would have a lifetime of Valentine's Day gifts.

DANVILLE, CA — For one East Bay couple this Valentine's Day, "til death do us part" doesn't quite tell the whole story.

As ABC7 News reports, John and Diana Maver were high school sweethearts and married for almost 50 years, raising three children and spending decades in Danville before John died in 2017. But before he passed, he made sure his wife would have a Valentine's Day surprise for the rest of her life.

"Through whatever magic works in his world, it's set up so that every year a bouquet of flowers shows up on her doorstop from my dad," Marilee Heard, the couple's daughter, told ABC7. "When these flowers arrive, you should see the smile that comes on her face."

Heard remembered her dad as the "ultimate romantic" and said the familiar arrangement of roses and lilies has arrived with a card on every Valentine's Day since his death.
