Danville Bakery Has Best Cookies In Bay Area: Mercury News
See where to go to get the softest, chewiest chocolate chip cookies in the region.
DANVILLE, CA — Mother’s Day is right around the corner, and soft, chewy, gooey chocolate chip cookies are one of the best ways to show your love and appreciation. The Bay Area News Group rounded up the 11 Bay Area bakeries with “next-level chocolate chip cookies,” and Danville’s East Bay Bakery was first on the list.
“It’s not surprising that some of the East Bay suburbs’ chewiest, most chocolaty chocolate chip cookies come from chef Gaby Lubaba,” the editors raved. “Generally, the selection at the bakery is wide-ranging. But when it comes to cookies, Lubaba usually sticks to one flavor – chocolate chip – and focuses on doing it really, really well. We were warned that the cookies, baked fresh every morning, can sell out by noon.”
If you miss out, fear not: the bakery operates stands selling the cookies at weekend farmers’ markets in Danville, Walnut Creek, and Orinda.

The Bay Area News Group has long admired the East Bay Bakery, which opened in July 2023. Shortly after, the newspaper named it one of the Bay Area’s 10 best new bakeries.
Chef Gaby Lubaba, also named one of the paper’s “Chefs to Watch,” mixes classic French tradition with elements of her native Indonesia and elsewhere in Asia. In addition to classics like croissants, danishes, and its signature croffles, the bakery also offers curry puffs, banh mi danishes stuffed with meatballs and pickled veggies, and jajan pasar, a traditional Indonesian arrangement of different brightly-colored sweets.
