DANVILLE, CA — A Monte Vista High School sophomore raised money for foster children in Texas.

Rohan Goyal founded a nonprofit called Wellness Wave, which has hosted over 20 presentations on topics like nutrition, fitness, and meditation for students aged 5-13 in foster care.

When Goyal learned that he would be visiting Austin, Texas with his family, he decided he wanted to find somewhere in the area to support. After some research, he decided to raise money to the Settlement Home for Children, which helps children who have faced emotional trauma, abuse, and neglect.

Goyal raised $315 through a karaoke fundraiser, and even performed an open mic at a local Austin cafe. Both events helped raise money to purchase summer supplies like sunscreen and beach towels for kids at the Settlement Home.

“I think Wellness Wave strives not just to help people, but to cultivate a community that looks towards a better future for everyone," said Goyal. “That requires understanding each other’s circumstances, and I feel that the best way to do that is to start building relationships with and supporting new communities.”
