DANVILLE, CA - A Danville student has spent several years researching deepfake detection and cybersecurity, including efforts to combat altered satellite images designed to mislead governments, markets, and the general public.

Athenian School student Vaishnav Anand has been developing systems to detect these fakes using advanced AI models, leading to international recognition and awards. He was invited to present at the Esri International User Conference in San Diego, the world's largest GIS gathering, where he met Esri Founder and President Jack Dangermond, and presented in front of leaders from Google, Microsoft, Amazon, and major government agencies.

Anand was also recently invited to present his research at King's College, University of Cambridge, in front of Nobel Laureate Dr. Thomas Cech.

Anand has also released two books in his "Tech Demystified" series: one on cybersecurity, and the other on AI and Deepfakes. He hopes that these books can help make these topics accessible for younger readers. The books offer real-world examples, simplified technical explanations, and practical tips.

“My goal is to remove the intimidation factor from technology,” Anand said. “Too many people think cybersecurity or AI is something only experts can understand. I want to show that anyone, whether they are students, parents, or educators, can grasp these concepts and use them to protect themselves and engage in informed discussions about our digital future.

“As exciting as AI innovation is, it is equally important to understand the threats it poses and how to protect ourselves. I want my work, whether in research or through these books, to be part of that solution.”
