Danville's Steffens Sisters and Other County Olympians Honored at Supervisor Meeting

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors honored a number of local Olympians at its meeting in Martinez Tuesday morning, including Danville's water polo gold medalists Jessica and Maggie Steffens.

Other water polo players honored were Melissa Seidemann, of Walnut Creek, and Heather Petri, of Orinda.

On Sautrday, the before its Music in the Park concert at 5 p.m.

Also featured was three-time gold medalist swimmer Dana Vollmer, of Richmond, will be recognized, along with fellow swimmer Natalie Coughlin, of Lafayette.

Vollmer won gold in the 100-meter butterfly -- setting a world record time of 55.98 seconds -- as well as the 4-by-100-meter medley relay and the 4-by-200-meter freestyle relay.

Coughlin won bronze in the 4-by-100-meter freestyle relay.

Others recognized this morning were bronze medal-winning synchronized springboard diver Kristian Ipsen, of Clayton; bronze medalist in the women's quadruple sculls Kara Kohler, of Clayton; synchronized swimmer Mariya Koroleva of Concord; men's rower Anthony Fahden, of Lafayette; and men's water polo team member Peter Varellas.
