Eugene O'Neill Festival 2025 Reflects On Theme Of "Seeking To Belong"
The 2025 festival will feature a play from O'Neill, a contemporary play, an art exhibit, a whisky tasting, a tour, and more.
DANVILLE, CA — Danville is honoring one of its most famous former residents through the Eugene O’Neill Festival, which will celebrate the famous playwright with different events from now until October. O’Neill, the only playwright to win four Pulitzer Prizes for Drama, lived in a hacienda house on the edge of Las Trampas Park from 1937 until 1944. The 2025 Eugene O'Neill Festival will begin with performances of playwright and past Eugene O'Neill Foundation Artist in Residence Lee Osorio's "Prisontown," and continue into September with exhibits, tours, and more.

"Prisontown" by Lee Osorio. Aug 23, 24 (Sat. 7:30 p.m., Sun. 2 p.m.) Veterans Memorial Hall/Senior Center, Danville. Past Foundation Artist in Residence Lee Osorio's play tells the story of a writer dealing with a ghost who journeys back to his Georgia hometown, where a new immigrant detention center has been built.

"The Hairy Ape" by Eugene O'Neill. Sept 5-7, 11-14, 20-2(Thu-Sat 7:30 p.m., Sun 1:30 p.m.). Tao House (first two weekends), Village Theater (last weekend). O'Neill's 1922 play tells the story of a man whose life is turned upside down trying to find a mysterious woman in white.

"Seeking to Belong": Poetry & Paintings. Sept 5-30, Museum of the San Ramon Valley. Enjoy paintings and poetry from local artists interpreting the theme "seeking to belong."
Secrets of O'Neill's Danville: A Historic Walk. Sept. 13, 10 a.m. Enjoy a free guided tour to see how the O'Neill family shopped and lived in Danville from 1937 to 1944. No preregistration required.
Whiskey Stroll. Downtown Danville, starting at Auburn Lounge. Sept. 17, 6-8 p.m. Enjoy Irish shanty singers as you enjoy whiskies paired with foods. Tickets cost $25 beforehand and $30 at the door.
