Hillary Clinton Pays A Visit To Danville
She visited the San Ramon Valley Monday in honor of her late friend, former Tri-Valley U.S. Rep. Ellen Tauscher.

DANVILLE, CA — Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton paid a visit to the Danville area Monday, where she delivered remarks in memory of a friend and signed copies of her new book.
The former Democratic presidential candidate spoke at Blackhawk Country Club in honor of late U.S. Rep. Ellen O'Kane Tauscher (D-East Bay), who died from pneumonia in 2019 at age 67, Bay Area News Group reported.
The state legislature last year passed a resolution to rename the fourth bore of the Caldecott Tunnel after Tauscher, who represented the Tri-Valley and other communities in Alameda, Contra Costa and Solano counties in Congress from 1997 to 2009.

"My message throughout this campaign was one of moderation and common sense,” Tauscher said after winning her seat, according to the resolution. “I want to go back to Washington and stand in the middle ... where most Americans stand."
Tauscher became one of the first women to secure a seat on the New York Stock Exchange in her mid-20s and specialized in national security matters. After retiring from Congress, Tauscher went on to serve as Clinton's undersecretary of state for arms control and international security under then-President Barack Obama, U.S. special envoy for strategic stability and missile defense and chair of the governor’s Military Council in California.

She lobbied for the Caldecott Tunnel expansion, and a sign in her memory now stands where drivers enter the tunnel eastbound from Orinda, Bay Area News Group reported. Clinton recalled Tauscher's passion for transportation in her remarks.
Clinton later made an impromptu appearance at Rakestraw Books to sign copies of her new book, "State of Terror," about a female secretary of state. She visited the bookstore briefly to sign the books they had in stock two years after she sold out a 1,500-person talk there with daughter Chelsea Clinton to promote "The Book of Gutsy Women," which they wrote together.
"State of Terror" dropped last month. Clinton co-authored the thriller with friend and mystery novelist Louise Penny.
On Monday evening, Clinton stopped by San Francisco's St. Francis Yacht Club to promote the book, the San Francisco Examiner reported. San Francisco Mayor London Breed was among those in attendance.
