The kindness of strangers

sidewalk collapse

The kindness of strangers:
Yesterday I left Maison Benoit in Danville with my wife and collapsed on the sidewalk opposite ( I had open heart surgery three weeks ago). I didn't lose consciousness so was acutely aware that a number of people immediately came to help me. Some even stopped their cars and got out to help. They were kind, thoughtful and knowledgeable, telling me to stay on the ground while they called the paramedics. Engine company 31 paramedics arrived, picked me up (literally) and took me to John Muir in Walnut Creek. They too were very helpful and considerate (I remember Isaac in particular).

I will never know their names but I want to thank everyone who stopped to help. They are an inspiration and the strength of our community and I am very grateful to all of them. (By the way, I am fine and back home.)
