Libraries Closed In Contra Costa County

Borrowers are encouraged to keep books until libraries reopen.

CONTRA COSTA COUNTY, CA — Staring Monday, all 26 Contra Costa County Library locations willclose until further notice as a precaution to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 coronavirus, a library spokeswoman said Sunday.

All library programs and events, as well as community use of meeting rooms are canceled until further notice.

"Closing libraries is a necessary step for the health and safetyof our communities," said County Librarian Melinda Cervantes

Book drops will remain open, but because books and other materials can carry viruses for several days, borrowers are encouraged to keep items

until the libraries reopen, library spokeswoman Brooke Converse said. All due dates will be extended, and because overdue fines were eliminated in 2019, no negative consequences will result from returning anything late regardless. Library patrons are encouraged to use library services available online, including access to eBooks and eAudiobooks with Overdrive/Libby, Enkie Books, streaming movies through Kanopy and Video Storytime.
