Maggie Steffens Scores 3 to Lead U.S. Over China

The Danville native leads the competition in goals with 11.

Danville's Maggie Steffens continued her impressive run at the Olympics, scoring three goals to lead the United States to a 7-6 victory over China in London on Friday.

Steffens, who's 19 and a graduate, scored once in the second quarter and twice in the third, to boost her overall goal tally at the Olympics to 11. 

Steffens leads all women's water polo players in goals at the Olympics, three ahead of Barbara Bujka of Hungary and Jennifer Pareja of Spain.

China scored with 3:13 left to get within one, but the Americans held on in the final minutes for the victory.

Jessica Steffens also played in the match, totalling 13 minutes, 31 seconds in the pool.

The match marked the end of group play and the United States will face Italy in the quarterfinals on Sunday.
