DANVILLE, CA — Patch reached out to all candidates for Danville Town Council and the SRVUSD Board of Education with identical questions. Here are the responses from Mark Belotz, a member of the Design Review Board, the Heritage Resource Commission, and Historic Design Review Committee running for Town Council.

1. What is your personal, educational, and professional background?

I have spent my entire life in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties. I have been married to my wife Silvia for 38 years and we have 2 boys, Alexander 36 and Andrew 32. I’m a graduate from Leadership San Ramon Valley, I attended the Danville Citizens Police Academy and the Danville Government 101 Citizens Academy and I attended the Central Sanitation Academy. To top it off, over the past 8 years I have attended almost every Danville Town Council meeting as well as most Danville board and commission meetings. I started a stone and hardwood restoration company 20 years ago and still own it.

3. What brought you here?

We moved to Danville because it was the place to be for a young family.

The schools are fantastic, the small-town charm and character, wonderful weather and very friendly people! I can’t think of any other place I would want to live!

4. How have you been involved in the community?

I am on the Danville Design Review Board, the Danville Heritage Resource Commission and the Danville Historic Design Review Committee. I also volunteer with Save Mount Diablo and am on the Development Committee and the Moonlight on the Mountain Gala Committee, the Friends of the San Ramon Creek Arundo removal team as well as the creek garbage pick-up crew, the Danville and Walnut Creek freeway trash clean-up crews, the Museum of the San Ramon Valley Gala Committee, the Stanford Tri Valley Health Care Community Advisory Relations Board and I am an active member in the Danville Area Chamber of Commerce.

5. What do you feel are some of the biggest challenges facing the community/school district?

I think the biggest challenge facing Danville as well as all of the other municipalities in California is the building, development and housing demands that the state is forcing on us. The state is mandating that we must rezone areas in town so 2241 new units can be accommodated according to State Law.

6. What are your plans for addressing them?

Since I am on the Design Review Board, I plan on making sure every development fits in with the towns character and charm and is the best constructed building they can build. Also, making sure the developers work with the neighbors so it creates minimum effects on them.

7. What makes you the best candidate?

I’m not trying to change everything the town is doing. Things are going great in Danville and I want to keep it that way. As the new member of the Town Council I might have different ideas on some items but I want to work effectively with the other members and continue making Danville
a wonderful place to live and raise your family.

8. Outside of politics, what do you enjoy doing?

I’m an avid walker and hiker. It’s amazing having Las
Trampas and Mt. Diablo in your backyard. I also love getting together with friends for a meal or just coffee and talk about anything and everything.
