New Cinema, 2 Other Businesses Sign Leases At Blackhawk Plaza
Commercial real estate firm JLL announced that a movie theater chain will open its first California location at Blackhawk Plaza.
DANVILLE, CA — Danville cinephiles rejoice: a new movie theater is coming to Blackhawk Plaza.
The closure of Century Blackhawk Plaza in December 2022 left the town without a movie theater. Commercial real estate developer Jones Lang LaSalle announced that Apple Cinemas, a growing first-run and blockbuster movie theater chain currently in the Northeast, is opening its first California location in a 26,200-square-foot space. The chain is not affiliated with the famed technology company.
It is expected to include some of the features of the other Apple Cinemas locations, including luxury seating, the ability to order pub-style food from that luxury seating, and an advanced 4K projection screen with Dolby Atmos sound, among others.

Two other businesses have signed leases at Blackhawk, JLL announced:
- Combat Sports Academy, a martial arts and fitness studio based in Dublin that offers training in everything from Crossfit to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to MMA, leased 26,600 square feet of space.
- Osteostrong, a wellness program designed to promote skeletal health, leased 1,530 square feet.
All three businesses are scheduled to open at some point in 2024, JLL said.

“Apple Cinemas, Combat Sports Academy and Osteostrong are great complements to the existing retail mix at Blackhawk Plaza, which includes a strong grocer-anchor, Draeger’s, and more than 40 other shops and businesses,” Jeff Badstubner, JLL managing director of retail advisory, said in a statement.
