DANVILLE, CA — A portion of Diablo Road will be closed for roughly three weeks starting Thursday as the town works to replace a drainage culvert.

Diablo Road closed to traffic from Alameda Diablo to Avenida Nueva Thursday morning, and it will remain closed until roughly April 13. Crews are replacing a culvert pipe that engineers say is at the end of its 60-year lifespan. Town engineers inspected the culvert pipe while making storm-related repairs to the roadside slope in January. They found that the pipe was flattening, which was causing slope erosion and a dip on the surface of Diablo Road.

The project will include trenching across Diablo Road, removal of the culvert, fabrication of the new culvert on-site, and installation of the replacement. Engineers say they are trying to plan the shortest duration possible that coincides with school breaks.
