Renee Morgan Sworn In As New Danville Mayor, Arnerich As Vice Mayor

Danville's 43rd Mayor's Installation and Community Service Awards also honored service milestone and community service achievements.

DANVILLE, CA — The Danville Town Council unanimously voted to select Renee Morgan as mayor and Newell Arnerich as vice mayor at an installation ceremony Tuesday.

Morgan and Arnerich were re-elected in November, and the results were officially certified Monday by the Contra Costa Clerk Recorder's Office. Mark Belotz, a member of the Danville Design Review Board, Heritage Resource Commission, and Historic Design Review Committee, was also sworn in.

Morgan was first elected to the Town Council in 2012, and begins her third term as mayor. Newell Arnerich has been on the Town Council since 1995, and served on the Planning Commission and Design Review Board before that.

The ceremony featured a poem by Danville Poet Laureate Eline Betts and Danville You Poet Madeleine Roytfeld. See here to read the poems, and to view the whole program.

The council awarded the Michael K. Shimansky Community Service Award to SRVHS student Andy Kim for his leadership and advocacy in the community, and the prestigious Danville Award to Danville Police Chief Allan Shields.

The council also recognized outgoing commissioners and elected officials, and milestones of service. Recognitions included Janet Willford for her dedication to the SRVHS and Danville communities for over 25 years, Margareta (Maggie) Iancu for her leadership at Monte Vista High School, Eric Ardell for his dedication to the American Legion Post 24, and Dan Dunn for over 10 years as director of the Museum of the San Ramon Valley.
