Tree Work Set for Hap Magee

Section of play area to close during work.

DANVILLE, CA - Due to illness and overall health, a valley oak tree located near the play area at Hap Magee Ranch Park will be removed next week. Crews from Cleary Brothers will begin work on October 10, 2016. The work is expected to take five days to complete and will require a crane for part of the operation. For safety reasons, a section of the Hap Magee Ranch Park play area, north of the Swain House, will be temporarily closed during the work.

Town of Danville Maintenance Services Director Jed Johnson said that due to the health of the tree and the overall safety issues surrounding it, the entire tree will need to be removed.

“Our arborist has said that the valley oak’s health has deteriorated to the point where it is becoming a safety issue to leave it standing,” Johnson said. “The proximity to the play area was an additional factor in getting the removal done in a short time frame.”

The majority of the play area will remain open during the project, but park users are asked to stay away from where the removal is being done. The work area will be cordoned off for safety.
